Biography
Marc Albrecht has been the musical director of the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam since He also leads the Dutch Philharmonic and the Dutch Chamber Orchestra. Under his direction, the Dutch National Opera earned the title of Opera House of the Year at the International Opera Awards and, in , Marc Albrecht himself was honoured with the title of Conductor of the Year.
He has made guest appearances at many of the great international opera venues including Milan’s La Scala (Die Frau ohne Schatten, Hansel und Gretel), the Bayreuth Festival (Der Fliegende Holländer), the Teatro Real in Madrid (From the House of the Dead), the Dresden Semperoper (Wozzeck, La Damnation de Faust, Elektra), the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich (Henze’s The Bassarids), the Royal Opera House in London (Der Fliegende Holländer), the Theater an der Wien (Der Prinz von Homburg and Henze’s Elegie für junge Liebende), the Salzburg Festival (Lulu), the Deutsche Oper in Berlin (Saint-François d’Assise, The Makropulos Affair), the Zurich Opera (Tannhäuser, Die Soldaten, Der Freischütz), the Paris Opera (Julietta, From the House of the Dead).
Korngold’s Das Wunder der Heliane which he conducted at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin in and which was recorded on the Naxos label and named “Rediscovery of the Year” by Operwelt magazine. In August , he conducted the Weimar Staatskapelle for the world premiere of George Alexander Albrecht’s Sinfonia di due mondi. He has conducted many of the world’s great orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, the Vienna Philharmonic, the Dresden Staatskapelle, the French National Orchestra the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and the RAI Orchestra of Turin.
