Marc Albrecht has been the musical director of the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam since He also leads the Dutch Philharmonic and the Dutch Chamber Orchestra. Under his direction, the Dutch National Opera earned the title of Opera House of the Year at the International Opera Awards and, in , Marc Albrecht himself was honoured with the title of Conductor of the Year.

At the beginning of his career, he was the assistant of Claudio Abbado at the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester as well as musical director of the Hamburg Staatsoper. He then became First Kappelmeister in Dresden, before taking over as musical director of the Darmstadt Staatstheater and principal conductor of the Deutsche Oper in Berlin.

During the season, he made his Proms debut in London with a programme of Wagner and conducted Die Walküre and Die Frau Ohne Schatten in Amsterdam, followed by Elektra at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia.
